Well finally we are off and running for 2007. I special ordered this
vertical lifter from Brent Ross at Devious Concoctions. It arrived today
April 24th.I learned a long time ago that if someone knows what they
are doing It costs me a lot less money to just order from them rather
than trying to build something myself. Besides Brent does welding and
I don't. This vertical lifter with a Bucky has a spitting mechanism in the
mouth. My nephew Chris has been after me for awhile to build two
short Cemetery columns to finish off the front of the cemetery. Well this
is the plan for this year. Only the right column will have this lif
ter and
spitting skeleton inside that will trigger when the kids approach it.
Flash.... This has now become the project for 2008.
Well it has been a strange year. With all good intentions in place I just couldn't get inspired for
this years yard haunt. The plan was to do Grimsley's Haunted Organ again, as much as I hate
repeating the same thing the next year. I was going to build two exterior 40 inch pillars to go
with Vinnie and Boris and have the spitter, pictured below, pop out of the right one. But I just
couldn't get
the juices flowing. In September, after reading Leonard Pickel's article in Haunted
Attraction magazine and discovering Halloween next year would fall on Friday I knew I was
going to wait to do Grimsley Manor again. Still searching for inspiration the Halloween Gear
store opened once again and I saw the new shaking Scaretaker figure from Gag Studios in the
front window. I fell in love right then and there and found my inspiration for this year's project. I
couldn't believe the detail in the faces. Lynn the owner has done an outstanding job once again
of procuring Halloween Goodies. I couldn't get inside fast enough to say hello and tell her I
wanted to buy the great prop in the window. Since the store had only been open six days I
made arrangements to return a few days later to help dismantle the front window and pack up
this guy. I wish every Haunter had this great a store in their area. Thanks Lynn!!
After getting him home and setting him up the Halloween juices began to flow. I was talking with
Wes ,one of our supervisors at work, and asked him if he would do the voice for Mr.
Moundshroud, the Scaretaker of Shallow Grave Cemetery. He agreed and I gave him the
basics of what I wanted. After a few days he and his girlfriend Amanda came up with an
awesome back story. We did the recording with my Olympus digital recorder, and with the story
they created Gari my brother and I have set out to achieve all the effects needed to make this
year's Halloween Memory happen. The kids in the neighborhood have already been asking
what we are doing this year. Stay tuned!
